Completely new to me, both artist and song! I noticed that his EP with "Escalator," while released on RCA worldwide, was released in the states on his RHA Records. I watched MTV then, too, as a kid in my Burbank youth group (in '82, I was a volunteer youth minister) had early cable, and I'd visit his house to watch this new channel called MTV!

I will say the video of the song is a definite time stamp of the era, even if exaggerated and a bit of a parody of itself...and, it frankly, may be neither!

Your waking-up stories I tend to echo, as well. If I don't wake up in the middle of the night, say, I'll wake up in the morning, and immediately have "the song" (whichever, and for whatever reason) playing non-stop in my head! This morning, it was "Forever Came Today," by the Jackson 5, as I had planted that video on Notes for MJ's birthday late Monday night, for Tuesday! It's almost like the song is on all night, and I only "hear" it when I finally awake!

Thanks, Brad! I'm pretty sure the video is meant to be ridiculous. But I love the background singers always riding up the escalator.

It's hard to tell if my header mistake was the main reason for the lowest numbers yet for a post, or if the lack of recognition for the song played a larger role. I guess I'll link to it in the next one -- though I get maybe 1 or 2 views max whenever I do that so in a way it doesn't matter.

Having never before heard of Hazard (and his '82 song), I'm two things: Never surprised at the numerous pop culture "black holes" that emerge in my '80s life, as I was transitioning from the biz to college and a new career!

And, I'm just as surprised that those same '80s-era artists I'm unaware of are little-known by others (like, apparently, Hazard). I just figure I was so insolated ('83-'86) immersing myself into college-work that everyone else will have the pop music jump on me that decade!

As for "lack of artist/song recognition," please don't let that impede your writing inspirations! Look at MY output.....one of the reasons I write about who I write (along with loving/being moved by the song and artist), is also knowing that they WEREN'T the Bon Journeys of the day! Please don't be guided to write by the perceived fame level of any given artist or song. I loved learning about Hazard! And, having your unique POV centered on someone (and a song) about which I knew nothing! U B U!😉👍

“Lovely Money” by The Damned. Maybe an extension of Pink Floyd’s “Money”. Definitely ear worm material!!

Well good!!! Actually, I was driving home last night and listening to all of « Damned but not forgotten » . I forgot how not only they were one of the first punk bands, but they’re so epically theatrical to boot!! They have such great harmonies, ideas and they’re very tongue and cheek and all over the place!! All wonderful band qualities!!

Lovely pick! I'm gonna add it to my 12-song mix....

Sorry for those reading this in their email— the intro header from last week didn’t properly get changed and repeated for this one. Hope you made it past that bit to read the rest!
