This was a delightful read! Good for you for exiting a job that wasn’t working for you anymore. Secretly, substack is part of my plan to eventually stop working my day job, but I know it will likely be a few years for that to happen.
Man, you've got a gift! I need to read more of your writings! Well, I can only think of one song now in the form of a question, "Who Can It Be Now", by Men at Work. Speaking of which, I should get back to ....
This is a glorious piece. I loved and enjoyed every living word of it. You have encapsulated the truth creatives feel and live. I love Bernie and the willingness you had to follow him on his leash rather than stay on yours. This would make a brilliant bio documentary peppered with dogs, spoken from hip and heart.
Nice! I don’t know all of these — including the Squeeze one (which is a shock as I’m a big fan). But you prove my point: there are a lot of question songs out there and it’s a great and broad theme to choose.
The Squeeze tune is the last track on Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti, their mid-80s “reunion” album which is a bit lesser known than others. I enjoy it, despite its being overly produced by Laurie Latham.
I need to hire you to walk Lil Bear sometimes! Seriously. And great piece btw. Def gonna check out that documentary. And love the story of how you became a dog walker!
Thanks Felicia! And I'll walk Lil Bear anytime! He is the best. I actually walked a dog named "Bear" who was like a larger version of Lil Bear! Let's talk....
I always liked the song. Lol. In SF there is a dog walking company called Who Let the Dogs Out which is genius. I see the van around, but it bugs me because they don't have a question mark at the end!

Thanks for allowing me to develop new associations with this song. My previous primary association with this song:

Noooo! That is so wrong. And he left out a couple "who"s at the end too.
:)

Ha - maybe I should look into walking for them too! Maybe there was no question mark because the owner's name is Who.
