First off, the dog pictures are EXQUISITE. Your clients are all Very Good Boys & Girls who are Very Important and I hope they are all living their best lives right now.
I just checked and it appears the only Rush tune with a title in the form of a question is "Where's My Thing?" (You knew I was gonna do a Rush song, of course! I have a brand to protect LOL)
Who Let The Dogs Out? has a frankly adorable Just Dance routine that my kids just loved when they were younger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVh-lNPd2eI&ab_channel=pitavalapita So whenever I hear this song, I think of my kiddos dancing about in the COVID era, and I smile
The first song that comes to mind is Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys.
The dogs pics are adorable. Great gig you found there, and like other subscribers said, keep walking!
My memory of this Baha Men track is, oddly enough, associated with my grandparents. They had cable TV (which I didn't), so I would visit them often, just so I could watch some MTV. At the time, all I wanted was to catch my favourite artists' new videos, but this song was inescapable. My grandparents were chuffed I visisted so often (bless them), and I did make a point of spending some time with them as well.
What popped in my head after reading your lovely comment was the Lenny Kravitz song “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” I love that my earworm conjured memories of your grandparents. That speaks to the power of music. It’s like how specific scents, usually food, do that.
Oh my god. Question songs: from 'Who's Zoomin' Who' (which begs so many questions) to 'Why Don't We Get Drunk' (which doesn't) - I love these on so many levels. But, as a Floyd fan, I'd have to say my favourite is 'Wots ... Uh the Deal?' (Obscured by Clouds). A gorgeous song.
For some reason, I woke up this morning, went to tell my wife that I have to get up to pee and as soon as the word “I” came out, my brain started singing “I’ve got a feeling / that tonight’s gonna be a good night…” I haven’t heard Black Eyed Peas song in maybe a decade? I have no idea where it came from 🤷🏻♂️
you tapped into the magic. also, the feeling was that you had to pee. often our earworms are lyrics that represent what our bodies are trying to convey.
1. Where is the Love - Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, How Do You Do? - Mouth & MacNeal, Do You Know the Way to San Jose - Dionne Warwick, Does Your Mother Know? - ABBA, What's Love Got to Do with It - Tina Turner, How Will I Know - Whitney Houston, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You - Michael Bolton (also Laura Branigan), Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? - Paula Cole, Do You Want To - Franz Ferdinand, Are You Happy? - Oscar Lang
2. I never did even think about who let the dogs out! Now I'm wondering...
3. No specific memories of the song but one of the newscasters on WGN-TV here in Chicago hates the song yet every time they do a story about dogs the song gets played!
Yes, so many great question songs! I wonder if they are more common in the Soul/R&B genre (sort of based on your picks). I had to look up Oscar Lang as I wasn't familiar. Didn't realize he was a current artist; all the others in your list have been around a while. You tried to trick me!:)
1) You're killing me with these earworms. "Who Let the Dogs Out?" I honestly believe that track -- along with my early life habit of wearing headphones and turning the volume to 11 -- is the reason for my hearing loss today.
2) Songs that ask a question ... so many. "What Difference Does It Make" (The Smiths), "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" (The Clash), "How Deep is the Ocean?" (Irving Berlin), "What is This Thing Called Love?" (Cole Porter), "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" (The Shirelles), "Where Did Our Love Go?" (The Supremes).
But the best: "What's Goin' On?" (Marvin Gaye), "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" (Beach Boys), "Who Are You?" (The Who), "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" (Elvis), "Do You Believe in Magic?" (Lovin' Spoonful).
The first two are among my favorite songs ever.
3) First, Bernie looks like a really cool dog. Second, my brother-in-law is a dog-walker. Don't know the name of his affiliation, but he does it a couple of times a week. It's really a good thing for him.
Great read, Steve. Really enjoyed it (except for the cruel reminder of that song ... please don't revisit "Hey, Macarena." That earworm would destroy my brain).
I wish I could promise no "Macarena" post, but that's exactly the sort of song that this newsletter was for!:) I'll do my best to give you fair warning if I do end up writing about that. What about "Gangnam Style"? 😀
Hahahaha! I have a video of my two younger boys singing “Gangnam Style” (they were like 18 mos and 3-1/2). I was thinking it was “Who Let the Dogs out?” until I read this. They are now 12 and 14, and whenever it shows up on my Facebook memories, I torture them with it LOL
Ha - they don't sound at all alike, but had a similar hold on the pop culture of their time. I do remember people posting videos of themselves doing the Gangnam Style dance back in the day....
They don’t sound alike! But, when I was singing it in my head like they do in the video, they sang “Hey sexy lady! Whoop whoop whoop whoop” and I’m guessing they did the whoops more like from “Who Let the Dogs Out” in my mind.
I'm glad you enjoyed it; I thought they were entertaining.
Leonard Cohen has plenty of questions, but they aren't necessarily posed to the listener. I did afterwards think of "Who by fire" but it only has a question mark in the final line of each verse.

I'm surprised there was only one Rush question song! I did think you'd suggest this, yes. Not that you're predictable....
The first song that comes to mind is Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys.

Thanks for sharing. Keep on walking! The first song that came to mind with a question for the title: “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” by Culture Club.
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
https://genius.com/3651964 - the story behind the question
I’m hoping with each of these pieces the answer to the question becomes clearer….Perfect song!

Ha! Not really. It's just that most of the songs I thought about are from the past!
A few things here, Steve ...
1) You're killing me with these earworms. "Who Let the Dogs Out?" I honestly believe that track -- along with my early life habit of wearing headphones and turning the volume to 11 -- is the reason for my hearing loss today.

FWIW. There's a youtube chanel that I watch occasionally, Todd In The Shadows, and his videos on
Gangnam Style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORtFg0a0Fe4
The Macarena: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33MGYUouEE4
Are both well done.
Songs with questions it the title:
Tracy Chapman: "Why?" (and "Baby, Can I Hold You")
Gil Scott-Heron: "Who'll Pay Reparations On My Soul?"
It's funny who doesn't have songs ending in a question. I was expecting to find one by Leonard Cohen but, glancing at track lists, didn't see anyway.
More importantly, thanks for the post, and it's good that you were able to find a positive routine for dogwalking.
I think Todd is Daniel Tosh.
Heh, but I don't think so: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToddintheShadow/comments/13gf7ll/an_unmasked_todd_in_lindsay_ellis_latest_video_on/
He comments in the Psy video about how everyone thinks he’s Daniel Tosh so that would be quite meta if it actually was him.
Oh, thanks for explaining. I just re-watched the video, but I missed that comment.
Thanks for pulling me away from doing my taxes for a half hour, Nick! If the IRS comes after me, I'm coming after you!:)
And Leonard Cohen doesn't have question songs because he's an answer man.
Thanks for the tips, and for reading!
I'm glad you enjoyed it; I thought they were entertaining.
Leonard Cohen has plenty of questions, but they aren't necessarily posed to the listener. I did afterwards think of "Who by fire" but it only has a question mark in the final line of each verse.
And who by fire, who by water
Who in the sunshine, who in the night time
Who by high ordeal, who by common trial
Who in your merry merry month of may
Who by very slow decay
And who shall I say is calling?
Oh, dude no. 😮💨
I'll settle for "Don't Worry, Be Happy." 😉
Hey now. DWBH is a certified good time banger
Great post! So far, the earworm I woke up with is not ceding its ground to your dogs.
The first question title that came to my mind is "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?".
Great song pick! I suppose you aren't gonna share your earworm? Is it the song of the day for you?
Welllllllll, I had to think about it some, as it's potentially sensitive for some readers. But yeah, I done did the deed with it.
