I don't know that one! At least I don't think I do.) I will certainly check it out. "Walking the Cow" by Daniel Johnston is my theme song, actually. It's one of my all-time favorites.
That's what I love about all these cross-music referrals Steve, hadn't previously come across DJ, or this song, but just listened to it, liked it, and then realised it had been covered by one of my favourite new UK Indie bands Porridge Radio!
What sounds have brightened my day? This one is both earworm and guilty pleasure. Disco, but with a guitar solo. Don't think I shared it before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEdyEEnMTy8
Pretty amazing, Charles! I agree with both you and Steve....a disco base, but jettisoned through a ferocious '80s-style metallic frenzy that I could picture people Hustling-while-slam-dancing to! Amid the electric cacophony, I believe I hear an orchestra chugging along (unless it's a bunch of synths aping strings)! And, that guitar solo......how did she NOT break a nail? Cool to hear...thanks, Charles!
Hey Brad, yes, it was a bit produced. I believe those are synths, but their parent band have sometimes used orchestral tracks. BUT: speaking of nails, there is a video that I long ago nicknamed "Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLM2unV0kwU Saki and Narumi are actually good friends. Sisterhood of shredders.
Great to watch...you're right---a sisterhood of shredders! A lot of the metal dudes would be envious. Wonder if there's an opportunity for the gals for a Lee Press-On Nails marketing campaign.
😂😂😂 I actually saw Mary's Blood live in 2019. It was Saki's birthday. The crowd of cynical old metalheads sang her happy birthday. Then she melted our faces.
I’m not sure I’d call this disco -- more like 80s-style epic dance music. The video is too fast cutting for my tastes, and I tried to pause it on a close up of the guitar -- but it looks like she’s playing a 7 or 8 string guitar? Maybe it’s a camera trick. Fun song.
JustWatch makes a lot of sense, theoretically, but I have a technical question: How many hours are there in 24 hours? I've run out and I only use one streaming service to start with! Re. the Beths: Cool composition and arrangement. Her warbly singing is not my cup of tea, but nice song.
That is the form of simplicity a good part of me desires. I will admit that I use JustWatch less lately than the past year or so as I’ve been watching less and less TV and films (largely because I’m writing at night). That said, I still obsessively keep my “want to watch” lists growing and use the app to keep track of where the shows are. It’s kind of like my own personal TV guide. I do this with music too and keep a list of albums I want to hear, with lots of subcategories in terms of genre and other minutia that would allow me to access new music more quickly.
All I can say is I'm impressed! I know in my life I will see or hear around .001% of all the stuff I would have loved if I found it in the first place. With your approach, who knows, you might get that up to .01%!!!! So much music, so little time. And I listen to my favorite stuff more than once, which also factors in....🙄🙄
[Spoken in charming New Zealand accent] Love The Beths! And keep forgetting to listen to their new disc. Only heard it once and thought it was fantastic. Cheers for the ReCOWmendation Steve.
You bet, Rand! It took me a couple of listens to truly fall into it's embrace, but it gets better and better with repeated listens. The production is also stellar. It just sounds sweet through a good stereo system.
I just finished reading Adam Kay's "This is Going to Hurt" and I'm not sure I like Kay all that much but he had me laughing out loud all through the book. Maybe it's my health background, but I found it one of the most enjoyable reads I've had in a while.
Also - I know this was turned into a miniseries on I think AMC or BBC (I should use the JustWatch app to answer this!) and I wondered if you've seen it or plan to?
Thanks for the tip, Kelly! And I hope my use of "sweet Kiwi-accented vocals" to describe The Beths wasn't ill-used. I did think of running it by you first!:)
How about 'The Size of a Cow' by The Wonderstuff as the theme song for ReCOWmendations?
It seems to fit the bill perfectly; I've never been quite sure if I like it, but it is undeniably (annoyingly) catchy!

7 string. That’s Narumi Suzuki, her normal jam is heavy metal

What accent? We don't have an accent, you do! Lol. (And yes, it was totally fine!)
