After an initial shock I calmed my brain and realised The Sun is a very different type of publication in North America than it is in the UK :D Happy New Year!

Hahahaha- I thought about that actually. I decided why not add a little bit of surprise instead of a disclaimer!

Linda Cardellini is one of the most underrated actresses of our generation. Haven’t seen Season 3 yet, but I will.

Magazine-wise, I used to subscribe to a bunch. Now I get get 2 aviation-related ones and am somehow still subscribed to Vanity Fair. That’s it. I’m reading more than ever, but it’s almost entirely long form digital content.

Yeah, I had a big crush on her after first seeing her in Freaks and Geeks, and everything she's been in she's been superb. Most have been supporting roles until Dead to Me so it was great to see her get to show all her chops in this one. Hoping she gets another juicy role soon.

I read so much digital content with Medium and Substack that I relish reading actual magazines and books now. I can't really read e-books like I used to anymore.

Magazines: I'm bummed that a couple of magazines I was really starting to enjoy, "Country" (and their sister pub, "Country Extra") and "Reminisce" (and "Reminisce Extra") just (as of their current January issues) have suddenly stopped publication. Perfect colorful, casual reading for my Sunday morning routine of getting my grub on at Golden Corral (following my gym stop at Planet Fitness, of course)! Published by the same folks, they've offered a refund for un-mailed issues or a sub to "Birds and Blooms." Uh, no.

But, at least, ReMind Mag is still around (they cover pop culture-music, movies, TV-nostalgia), and will publish my new FR&B ad in the Feb issue (out end of January)! That's all....I don't do current movies or TV!

Oh Golden Corral....I haven’t been, there aren’t any near me as far as I know but I was raised on Denny’s and it was me and my friends’ after-school munchies destination. I just feel like “Corral” is not a word that should be used in the name of a dining establishment. Might as well call it “Golden Trough.”

Somehow, though, Golden Corral sounds much more palatable when it's a mile away from the Purple Paddock. THAT place has a sign at the door, stating, "Watch out where you step; that ain't second base!"

Little known is the fact that Golden Corral (clearly lacking anyone in branding with an editing sense) was once known as The Vaguely Yellow-Hued Circular Enclosure Formed By Wagons During An Encampment, As By Covered Wagons Crossing the North American Plains in the 19th Century, For Defense Against Attack, LLC. aka T.V.Y.H.C.E.F.B.W.D.A.E.A.B.C.W.C.T.N.A.P.I.T.N.C, or, an acronym that, when transcribed, is perfect Latin meaning Golden Corral.

I think “Dead to Me” might be a good one to watch by myself when Sean has his weekly Thirsty Fathers Collective hangout. Thanks for the reminder!

Ha - is it too much of a “chick show” for Sean?

Currently watching “Dead to Me” Season 2! I also really enjoyed LOOT, which I think is on AppleTV. As someone who has worked in nonprofit fundraising for a number of years, I enjoyed the premise of a wealthy and out-of-touch funder suddenly deciding to get involved in the day-to-day operations. And there are delightfully funny secondary characters.

Never heard of LOOT, but I do love acronyms (as I mentioned). I assume LOOT is an acronym. Knowing nothing I’m picturing a “save the owls” non-profit and their LOOT company logo has two owl heads as the O’s in LOOT! I’ll be so sad if I’m wrong.

I suppose that show would be called HOOT, so I’m likely wrong.

I have "Dead to Me" on my watchlist and plan to review it with a good female friend. Excited for the conversation that will spark from that. I am a big Applegate fan and have heard a lot about her filming of this season with MS. Started the "PEN15" show but couldn't get over adults playing high schoolers (then again I swallowed plenty of "90210" and other Fox and CW stuff in this realm). Maybe in animated form it would have been more palatable. "Broad City" was funny. "Grace & Frankie" has such extreme Boomer archetypes with those characters but again, it's witty and who doesn't want to see Tomlin and Fonda together? ("9 to 5" fans anyone?) Maybe I need to write the 40s/50s female friendship show we can pass the baton on from now that "Dead to me" is done. What does friendship look like when your life isn't going according to a plan you had when you're 20 but doesn't totally suck and has really exceptional moments that you should likely feel more gratitude for?

Great question in that last line. That clearly is your jumping off point for your script about 40-50 something women. Do it! You could call it “Women of a Certain Age” in honor of the short lived but excellent show with Ray Romano a decade ago. No, definitely don’t copy anything a man did. But be sure to add a murder to make it appealing to network honchos.

Loved "Men of a Certain Age" - that show was pure gold. In "bro-code" genre of shows, I also enjoyed "Mad Dogs" (speaking of mysteries) on Prime Video with Steve Zahn and Billy Zane among others. It was when Prime was still doing their pilots' seasons and you could vote on which to keep. I loved that program. If you hook me up with studio connections, we may just have a series on our hands. Plenty has been done in the male realm to borrow good ideas from to make them into great ones.

Never heard of "Mag Dogs." I'll have to add it to the list. Yeah, Amazon was so much better back in those days of pilot testing. One Mississippi was a gem made from that time. And I look forward to reading your future articles on Dead to Me (which I first typed as Mead to Dee, which is the less exciting show about a woman named Dee who makes mead).
