Excellent job! For the bonus playlist, I nominate "6" by the Neats.

My bad. Dylan used a numeral not spelled out.

Love to see Six Different Ways on here!! Head On The Door is one of my favorite Cure albums.

I know 6 Underground doesn’t meet your number word requirement but would be an obvious choice for me otherwise.

The only other six song that came to mind was “Six Years” by Sweet 75, the short-lived band formed by ex-Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. They released one self-titled album in 1997.

Mark, I just found this cool mini doc of Sneaker Pimps. Lots I didn’t know. https://youtu.be/skMqqz7yRs0?si=BYBVWVCS4syknJAu

Yes, like I explained to two others, I almost added "6 Underground" despite my rules. It is a great one. I never knew about Sweet 75, so will need to check that one out! Thanks for the recommendation!

Regarding The Cure - I think I mentioned this on one of your posts, but as much as I love everything they've done through Wish, it's the 7 year, 5 album period from The Head on the Door to Wish that I love most.

Great list, Steve! You’ve inspired me to do two things.

1. Listen to my Dressy Bessy album. I too haven’t heard them in probably 20 years.

2. Send you a picture of me in my Meat Puppets t-shirt circa early-90s. It’s similar to yours but with a different image beneath the text.

I eagerly await seeing it! I wish I still had my tshirt but there’s no way it would fit even if I did.

To be clear, the photo is from the 90s and my t-shirt is long gone as well.

6 Underground - Sneaker Pimps (Great song!)

25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago

6 Feet Away - Chromeo (a pandemic era song!

Sixth Gear - Kakkmaddafakka

Excellent! I said before on Kristin’s comment that I was very tempted to include the sneaker pimps song but wanted to keep my numbers as words rule. And it’s funny that you mentioned the Chicago song because you brought it up for songs about number four.😀

Ah! Maybe I missed the need for "word" songs. I think "Sixth Gear" should count though, right?!

For sure counts! And the others count for the bonus playlist.

Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast.

And for the opposite feel, Sixth Pavan and Galliard played by Glenn Gould.

Nice! I really considered breaking my number as word rule for Maiden but the number isn’t in the title even in parentheses so it didn’t make the cut. The Glenn Gould counts though!

That's a great list. My first thought was to see if anything from the _Six-String Samurai_ soundrack would qualify. None of them did but a little more digging brought me to the song "Six-String Tennessee Flat Top" (which, I discovered, is a completely different song than the Johnny Cash classic):

Never heard of Jeannie Bryant, so thank you for the share! It’s going on the bonus playlist for sure.

Yay! I hadn't heard of her (or the song) either, but she sings it well.

Six Blade Knife is soooo freakin good. Not a bad song on the album (or any of theirs, IMHO) - but six blade is outstanding - John Ilsley’s bass line is so perfect underneath.

Original vocalist Dez Cadena?? I think Keith Morris would have something to say about that. Or even Ron Reyes.

Original for the song? Am I wrong? That's what the internets told me.

that is a bold and unorthodox interpretation of the phrase "original vocalist", and i like it.

Billie! So good. And let’s remember the oldie “Sixteen Candles” by The Crests since six is part of the title! 🎂

Next month I think I'm doing "sixteen" so there's a good chance that one will be on the playlist! There's way more 16 songs than 6 ones, at least in my quick initial research.

Gee, Steve, how could you miss "I Wanna Six You Up" by Color Me Bradd?

Expand full comment

Hahaha - you know they spelled it "👁️ Whanna 6 U Uhp." You should form a 1-man band that just does all songs with "Bad" in the title and change them to Brad. It'll go viral for sure.

I’m as Brad as I wanna be, yo! I love your spelling! How much longer before we see hip, happenin’, 21st-century artists wrenching their titles into hieroglyphs, hoots, clicks, and whistles, like a Taylor Swift song I'd love to see: “Whatchu Talking' 'Bout, Willis” suddenly becomes,

"🔱♓🅰🍄🌜♓⛎ 🍄🅰👢🎉🕴🥄' '🅱😀⛎🍄, 🔱🕴👢👢🕴💲"

Me still stupid. How does "air" translate to 6? I did mention Nena and this song a couple of posts ago in reference to the time specific trend in the '80s when German songs became hits and were then rerecorded in English and also became hits.
