I had Tidal on random tonight and a song starts playing, it caught my ear and by the end of the track I was like, who was that! It was the Arcs "Keep On Dreaming". The tone on the guitar solo is searing, yet warm to the ears. I had never heard of them and honestly thought it may be a new Alex Turner project. Anyway, I'm thinking, where have I heard of them before and then it hit me. That Earworms guy just wrote about them. So now that I've finished your story, I'm going to listen to the album all the way through. Thanks, Steve.

That is so great to hear! That's a perfect example of the power of music. "Keep on Dreaming" is the opening track of the album and one of their best. The latest album (which is, as I said, a collection of songs over the history of the band) is excellent. Much better than the Last Shadow Puppets.

Thanks for the intro and background on the Arcs-new group to me. I love the backstories and the multitude of musical connections. And that song--the arrangement and the instrumentation create an interesting wistful-but-creepy sensation which I think is very cool. Re. Miley, she does have a good voice but the song didn't stick. But thanks for getting me to listen to something by her!

Charles, check out the whole Arcs album if you like the old-school soul sound but with a bit of an alt-rock twist. Yeah, having two of the Dap-Kings in the band doesn't hurt. They are like the best unsung all-star band. And I'm glad the Miley song didn't stick as now you have more room for other songs!:)

I love Miley! I don’t buy her albums or anything, but a few of her songs are in my rotation. Just getting to know flowers.

Slide Away is one I sometimes play on repeat for hours while I’m writing -- there’s just something about the way the chorus rolls along over hills and valleys that I love to sing along with. Also, she’s one of a few singers whose voice is in a lower register like mine, so I can belt out anything she sings with my full voice.

She’s a great rocker, too. I found some YouTube videos of her doing awesome covers.

She has a wide appreciation for a lot of music. Her duet with Joe Elliott of Def Leppard for the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins was a lot of fun. And her recordings with Flaming Lips are, um, challenging, but I like how unafraid she is of doing something completely antithetical to the "pop star" playbook.

I haven't heard Flowers yet but I did recently have an exorcism to remove "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart" from my head. It was unsuccessful. Miley has some good, wormy songs, gotta admit.

Well, then I suggest you reach out to your previous exorciser cause once you play “Flowers” you’re gonna need another one.

I love Miley’s voice too! So many voices get enhanced/transformed etc. in the studio but having seen her sing live on tv a number of times, it’s clear she’s the real deal.

thanks Felicia! I was going to mention in the piece how refreshing it is to not hear autotune (though I can say for sure that it wasn’t used). I woke up with “Flowers” in my head three times last night!:)
