thanks, Jen! There are 5 raised beds scattered across the yard and one is filled with volunteer potato plants. No one had lived in the house since June, but I dug up one plant and harvested a giant bowl of potatoes! i think this is a good sign for the future.
Congrats! On the house, and on marrying up! So, for your den, I suggest "Bag End". You just need to install a rack for a beer keg! I'm so glad you picked the good "Our House" and not the other one. As for other "house" songs, gotta go with "House of the Rising Sun". Don't ask.
Ha - I did intentionally not mention the CSNY song of the same name. House of the Rising Sun was surprisingly not mentioned before you! It's a favorite for sure. That will be in the playlist. Why don't ask? Are you saying there's a story behind that song for you?
Just a little joke. It's my favorite song to do in Karaoke, because you can manage it with a range of half an octave. But let's face it, it's a song about growing up in a whorehouse.
As someone who lived in a 400-year old house for 15 years, and did much restoration and both planned and unplanned renovations, I can assure you that many years down the road, you’ll look back and see the current speed bumps as mere blips in the story of your new home’s life.
A couple weeks ago, on the day we saw what we hope to be our new home for the first time, as we drove away “Our House” was the first song that burst from my lips in excitement. We’re hopefully a week or two away from being locked into the purchase 🤞🏻🤞🏻
“Country House” by Blur has been coming to mind recently as has “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. One of my favorite songs about houses, though not relevant in this context, is The Cure’s “In Your House” from 1980’s Seventeen Seconds.
BTW, I think studio is a great name for that room.
Congrats on your new home! A song about a place someone calls home: Cars by Gary Numan...Ok, it's not an actual house but it IS where he feels safest of all!
How about "Open Letter (To a Landlord)" by Living Color? I also have to mention "House of Plague" by Wolverine, even though I think "house" is used metaphorically, because I love that song so much!
I haven't played Living Color's Vivid in forever, so had to play it again to remember that song. Excellent choice! I don't know Wolverine, so will check that one out later. Thanks for the recommendations!
Our house is also in the middle of our street. Congrats and mazels on the new money pit! It’ll be worth it. That’s also the line you’ll keep telling yourself for the rest of your lives. Sorry I’m in a strangely bad humor mood
If that is bad humor mood, I must be in a perpetual bad humor mood as you were tapping into the dialogue in my head most of the day. Thanks for the congrats! I like to say that at least I'm living in the prison of my own design! :)
i was also going to say 'House of Fun'. but since that's taken, i offer 'Happy House' (Siouxsie & the Banshees), 'In This House That I Call Home' (X), 'Burning House of Love" (X again) '2541' (Grant Hart), and maybe 'Spider's House" (Califone)
Your X and Talking Heads picks were in my short list. It does seem that the 80s were a ripe time for songs about the house. Or maybe those are the songs we grew up with so they come to mind more readily.
My English wife is a big Madness fan, and we've seen them (at festivals) three times. They never fail to put on a great show. While 'Our House' was big here, it wasn't nearly as popular as 'Baggy Trousers' and 'House of Fun' - my personal favourite. 'Our House' has definitely been added to this afternoon's playlist, though! Thanks!
Yes- I personally prefer their higher energy ska-forward tunes, and ‘House of Fun’ could have been the song I chose for this post instead! Ha- and it fits my request for more ‘house’ songs.
Congratulations on the new house! Sorry about the flooding and stuff, but I’m excited for the potential new garden space!

Congrats on the move! I’ll go with daft punk is playing in my house, LCD soundsystem; home at last, Steely Dan; welcome home (sanitarium), Metallica; and this one by an old band I was was in! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=3WI0MD82QaQ&si=AN1p_GdUju7ggRZO
Heck yeah! All great, essential picks. Especially the last one.

Ha - I had a playlist a couple years ago all about cars and that was the first song.
wishing you a smooth move...
Thank you, Exlax!

well, hell. 'Burning Down The House'. didn't think of that one, but seeing as you are giving me credit for it all the same, i'll take it.
Ha - I always credit you for all the good ideas, Wil.
