Loved it. Agreed that it's all about love and ok to feel the maximum feels, be cheesy, say it and spread it, because it can all change in an instant.

Ha! I've reduced showering dramatically since working from home, which started a little before the pandemic for me. Getting older and grosser by the day!

Thanks for the comment. Like I was exploring, perhaps it's aging, being in a relationship and the pandemic combined that have led us to realize that showering daily is a waste of time, water and effort. As we age, time speeds up so we gotta find ways to maximize it as best we can...

Don't trust anyone you can't smell is what I say.

Thanks for reposting this Steve. I remember this column well. It still resonates. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy T-Day to you too, Charles! I was rereading your great comment the first time I posted. Can’t believe that was over a year ago! Let’s figure out our next concert!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. For all of this. To say it resonates is an understatement, as we share similar experiences with loss(my dad and a stepson).💜

On a note of ridiculosity, all I had to do was see the words "Shower the People" and BOOM! The new song of the day is enthroned, as it kicked Diana Ross "Touch Me In The Morning" and Jeannie Pruitt "Satin Sheets" right off the playlist they've been on for some DAYS. (I have managed a mashup of those two songs-what in the hell .....) Love to you and those you love.✨

I'm glad I could rid two clingy earworms with one showery JT song! Yeah, it's been a tough week. People struggle all year long, but holiday season can be super triggering for many. I'm sorry about your dad and stepson.

Thanksgiving wishes to you and yours!

No cold shower needed here, as I interpreted "love the one you're with" in a more platonic way, rather than romantic/sexual.

This year, I'm grateful that I've reconnected with two of my siblings.

Good for you for having a mature response!;) I was just so thrilled to discover the video clip of JT singing that song with CSN that I had to follow my puerile reaction...

Wellllll, to be honest, that mature response took some time to form in my mind; and I must admit that I did follow the lustful message on occasion.

I'm saving that video for later in the day, when I can attend to it fully.

I’ve been thinking about the “I don’t want to pry” mindset as I know this well and often try and resist it. I think prying is loving hard. I see this in people who show up with authenticity in their relationships but also acknowledge that more often than not they’ve seen that behavior modeled for them by someone close. We often get so busy or to be kind to ourselves are expending so much energy thru our own trauma and struggles so we move away from it, not by intentional force but by a “fight or flight” response that we can muster in the moment. I like deep, heavy and dark. I’m here for the intro and all of it.

Thanks, Beth. The fight or flight response (more flight for me) is a tough one to push back against. Part of it for me was seeing my younger sister need so much of my parents' attention that I developed a strong independent streak and an "I don't need anyone else's help" attitude. This kept me from being fully able to be give of myself to others as well. Though my mom definitely modeled the "don't want to pry" too. Thanks for your reply and have a great holiday weekend!

Have a great holiday weekend to you too. My flight response is steeped heavily in shame for what I believe was some pretty neuro atypical development stuff with regards to executive functioning and as a girl I internalized. I guess that’s what this adulting stuff is all about! Take it easy and keep sharing these beautiful thoughts.

I love James Taylor. I heavily relate to showering less these days, and I’ve also wondered if it was an age or not-leaving-the-house thing! Sorry to hear about your friend.

Thanks, Jen. Regarding the frugality of showering, I think it’s a both/and thing. Frankly, I am grateful for the extra time it affords!
