You are right about that song being catchy. I find myself from time to time, every few years, singing it. It's usually when I hear someone say something similar to that "you all everybody" phrase. It was such a stupid song, but I guess brilliant, if it stayed in my head nearly 20 years later.
I loved Lost. We watched it all the way through two times. Once when it was originally on, and years later with my kids.
Thanks Steve... now this song is going to be stuck in my head all day long!
I too am one of the human unicorns who has never seen Lost! (I always meant to, but the bad buzz about the final season turned me away.) But I do love music from fictional bands, and this article is making me wonder if it's worth giving the series another chance.
Never watched it. I have certain theories, tho', about certain movements being invented by people that did, bc they saw it lead people in ever-more fruitless circles for years on end.
My vote for best Fictional Band is Stone Arabia; in the book of that name by Dana Spiotta.
Or if that doesn't qualify; then Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, from the Muppet Show.
I love the Phil Donahue origin story! And how “you all everybody” morphs from bad grammar to song lyric to band name! I miss the excitement of watching Lost. There were so few complex shows back then.
I never watched Lost...and I've heard that it rapidly declines from season one, which makes me disinclined to try it now. But I loved this piece - that Phil Donohue moment is pure gold!
This is a fun read, Steve. Brought back memories of Oasis, of course, but particularly of the late Bob Welch. His brief stint with Fleetwood Mac was fairly productive. "Hyptnotized" is still a favorite of mine.

Great stuff. More posts on fictional bands please!

I love this show. Wasn't this song written as a parody of Oasis/Britpop?

Me neither.
Today, I learned that I'm a unicorn. I've never seen an episode of 'Lost." Maybe a clip or two along the way (?) but that's it.
