Falling at Your Feet by Daniel Lanois is the earworm I had when I saw the article title. This was the album I listened to quietly as I rocked my fussy newborn to sleep almost 20 years ago. Whenever I hear a Daniel Lanois song Iβm taken back to this exhausting but peaceful era of my life. β₯οΈ
Thanks for this, Jen! and thanks for subscribing! I do love Daniel Lanois but didn't know this song. Is that Bono singing with him? I see that he is credited as co-songwriter.
Hey Steve! Finally got a chance to start reading your articles again. Really good stuff, interesting to learn about how the song gets developed and the inspiration(s) behind it. "Don't Dream It's Over" is maybe only one of two of Crowded House's songs that I can remember by title, it was one of the songs I recorded to a CD back in the 90's for a playlist of songs I liked. Tough to think of songs with the word "fall" in it, but I thought of just one, "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You", by UB40. It wasn't one of my favorite songs when it first came out, definitely "Red Red Wine" I liked better, I "fell" for that one. ;)
I did look to see if any of The Fallβs catalogue had a song wit the word fall but didnβt find anything. Also Iβm familiar with only a narrow range of their pieces. But I did consider them!
Another good one, Steve! I liked the CHouse mention, with the Finn bros, too, and Neil's influence on Split Enz. Back to CH...I appreciated the Mitchell Froom story, and his influence on the final song! I didn't know that...sometimes we forget the creative influence the producer can have (and sometimes, should have) on an album's final product!
Ha - great choice! And one of my favorite EC songs. I feel dumb that I didn't know it was a Sam & Dave original! Or maybe I forgot. I'll say that. Maybe there is a third cover of it that you can use for a future Inside Tracks!
You're lucky....I was about to include, as my "fall" track, the Genesis song, "Fall-ow You, Fall-ow Me"! I thought better of it, though. You're welcome!π
I love Crowded House.

Yes, that's Bono! Lanois is a co-producer on U2's Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby albums.

My "fall" song is Sam & Dave's "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" from 1967 (and written by Homer Banks and Allen Jones). https://open.spotify.com/track/24yqnV63EjRvFlVLrTGRLB?si=083925c5ec5d416e Elvis Costello covered it a dozen years later.

I see your wordplay landscape has not fallen fallow.
