Wow, what a story! The song sounds familiar, but I can’t place why I know it. Maybe they played it on KEXP. By the way, KEXP is hiring a music director, and I am 100% not qualified, but a girl can fantasize.

You mentioned Dave Bazan whom I’ve met several times (he would not remember me) because we have mutual musician friends.

Look at me name dropping on a music blog! 💪

Jen - you have to apply for music director at KEXP! You are already good at name dropping which is like 50 percent of what the job entails! Do it!

Way to turn lemons into lemonade, buddy. Making not one but two traumatic finger disasters into an opportunity to discover some amazing new music. Sorry it had to come in such a painful way, and I hope your digit starts to feel better soon. I’ll be checking out Richard Swift in the next few days and thinking of you as I listen to each song.

Thanks, Rand! Yeah, I try to use life’s roadblocks and challenges as material for more Earworms! I feel kinda lucky that it turned up such riches! I’m putting together a Richard Swift playlist for my paid subscribers, if you’re considering taking the plunge! Maybe if you’re nice I’ll give you a sneak peek.

This is so frustrating!! I’m sorry this happened to you Steve. Honestly everytime we take our dog to the off leash dog trail I’m shocked at how many people don’t put their dogs on leash when they should near the entrance and just let their dogs dawdle and wreak havoc on other dogs. We generally wait and let stoopid people do their stoopid stuff and move to the side with our dog. But every now and then there’s an altercation between animals. Dogs that are leashed vs unleashed behave differently and undoubtedly a leashed dog is feeling more threatened and scared

Thanks, Beth. For some reason, at the off-leash trails I haven't had as much of an issue. Maybe if I hiked narrower trails it would be another story. It does require a calm vigilance (oxymoron?) I think, to provide leadership and authority for the dogs and at the same time to not be hyped up with anxiety. I could go on and on with this topic....

Yeah you lost me at the not being hyped up with anxiety...

As you know, dogs pick up on our emotional energy and when we are calm they tend to be too. Easier said than done, but it’s good to have ideals.

Pretty amazing story, Steve! Enjoyed meeting your bow-wow friends, but breaking your finger in that way makes me thankful that my few dog-sitting and -walking sessions were far less harrowing! I've never broken anything (knock on formica), but I'm amazed you didn't make a trip to the ER or a clinic or similar. Especially after slamming it in the door! I'd be afraid of setting it the wrong way, but you've had experience!

While not an immediate fan of the tuneage, I'm impressed you came across such a spot-on title in Swift's "Broken Finger Blues." However, it would've been really spooky if a song had emerged that were any MORE appropriate...like "Steve's Broken Finger He Got While Dog-Walking...No Really" by Bow Wow Wow, or "Broken Blue Finger" by Blue Man Group, featuring David Blue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Blue_(musician)

Thanks for all your typing, and staying true to the craft (and to your readers)! You're a trooper! I trim my nails, and I'm laid up for a week. And, don't even get me started on flossing!

Thanks, Brad! I know better than to sit in urgent care with a bunch of sick people for half a day! That's why they invented Dr. Google!;)
