I first noticed the song through a cover by Yael Naim. I'd be curious to hear what you think of it. I love the chains cranking... It is a very well written pop song for sure.

This is how a cover should be done. Truly rework it but keep the same melodic structure. The 2nd half of the song takes it even further which was great. Staying as a torch ballad the whole way would have been less effective. But I am trying to imagine you hearing this version first and how produced the original must have sounded.

So true, it's a well executed cover.

Haha, yes, Britney's is just so perfect and shiny. But luckily I have a soft spot for dance pop (is that a genre? I never know...) My 1st Britney song was Circus. It's a guilty pleasure for sure!

I think I’m looking at Toxic in a new way with this post. I don’t dig her music but Hit me baby one more time felt like ten giant leaps backwards for womenkind when it came out in college. Tooth extractions suck. I started with having to get pesky baby teeth when I was 10 based on an Overcrowded mouth (sure there’s a joke in there somewhere) and hadn’t had to relive that event until this past December when I had to get a visible permanent tooth removed due to the trauma inflicted by the oral metalware/ gear from my tween and teen years known as braces, an expander and a device like an expander except it had metal spikes which scraped the tongue every time it moved forward so there’s that. Hoping dentistry and orthodontics have made some progress since those days

Yeah I think Britney deserves to be looked at as more than the Hit Me Baby One More Time song. I’m not a super fan by any means but I could compile a great 75 minute mix from her best songs.
