This week has been earworm dense for me. The deepest one I am saving for the longer post, but here’s one that has been swirling around the past few days, as I’ve been writing a bonus post about World Party and their brilliant 1997 album, Egyptology. The song “Love Is Best” is a gorgeous ballad that hits me in all the feels.
Speaking of which….
I have decided to bite the bullet (probably wrong idiom) and add a paid option to Earworms & Song Loops.
No pressure, you won’t be receiving any less access than before, but I will be adding some nice goodies to those of you able and willing to support me with a tiny financial contribution to this here newsletter. Substack won’t let me charge less than 5$/month but I can set the annual price, which is 35 bucks. So that’s like less than 3 bucks a month. Less than the cost of a small latte.
There should be some button at the top of the emails for upgrading to Paid Subscription if you decide to do that. But again, no pressure. Unspecified goodies, though! Aren’t you a little curious??
Be sure to post your earworms of the week in the comments.
Hi Steve, the current song looping around my brain is 'Gary Ashby' from the new Dry Cleaning album. A song worm of a track written about a pet tortoise, now that's just weird!
PS I would be really interested to hear how your 'paid subscription for extras' experiment goes. I'm considering something similar for my serialised novel, I don't want to make the story 'paid' as I hate the idea of dissuading anybody from reading it, but I have got some ideas on 'extra content' I could put potentially put behind a paywall. Please let me know how it goes. Tim
Hi Tim, that Dry Cleaning album is one I keep meaning to listen to. Loved their first one (this is their second, right?) but finding time to listen to new music and actually give it true attention is a challenge lately. Been mostly listening to older stuff. Like the World Party I wrote about.
Regarding paid subscription, I’ll definitely let you know how that goes. I don’t expect much other than perhaps a couple of friends upgrading to be supportive. Like you, it’s not a limiting access thing at all, just occasional bonuses, and I’m realizing I have to be doubly careful in checking settings before scheduling a post as it defaults to “only go to paid subscribers.”
